Double Eagles
First struck in 1849 following the discovery of gold in California, the double eagle is the largest circulating U.S. gold coin, with a face value of $20. It features the Liberty Head design (1849–1907) and Augustus Saint-Gaudens' Saint-Gaudens double eagle (1907–1933), widely considered the most beautiful U.S. coin ever struck.

The 1933 Saint-Gaudens double eagle is legendary, with almost all specimens melted down before release. Other key dates include the Carson City mint issues (CC) and the high-relief 1907 Roman Numerals.
Grading Guidelines
Saint-Gaudens double eagles are graded primarily on the contact marks on Liberty's face and legs, and the fields on the obverse. High-grade (MS-65 and above) examples require exceptional original luster and clean surfaces.
