Four Dollar Gold Stellas
The four-dollar gold piece, or "Stella," was struck as a pattern coin in 1879 and 1880 to explore a potential international currency. It features a five-pointed star on the reverse and was struck in Flowing Hair and Coiled Hair designs.

All Stellas are extremely rare and highly prized. The 1879 Flowing Hair is the most "common" (only 425 struck), while the Coiled Hair varieties and all 1880 issues are legendary rarities.
