About This Coin

Charles E. Barber’s neoclassical design debuted in 1892, bringing a formal, Victorian aesthetic to American silver coinage after decades of the Liberty Seated motif. The new design represented a modernizing nation, and the first-year issues were widely saved by the public, though few survived in pristine condition.

As a first-year coin, the 1892 quarter holds a distinct place in a type or date set. While circulated examples are relatively common, Mint State survivors are a different matter. Securing this issue in PCGS MS62 offers the collector a genuine uncirculated specimen, preserving the sharp details of Barber’s original engraving without the premium of gem-grade pieces.

This is an honest, certified representative of a landmark nineteenth-century issue. It represents an excellent entry point for a collector seeking to anchor a Barber set with a clean, uncirculated first-year coin.

Series History & Details

Designed by Chief Engraver Charles E. Barber, the Barber Quarter was struck from 1892 to 1916. Sharing its obverse with the dime and half dollar, it served as a workhorse of American commerce at the turn of the 20th century.
