1900 Barber Quarter
About This Coin
Charles E. Barber’s coinage defined American commerce at the turn of the twentieth century. Introduced in 1892, his quarter paired a stoic, classical Liberty with a formal heraldic eagle, creating a utilitarian design built to endure relentless pocket wear. In 1900, the Philadelphia Mint produced an issue destined almost entirely for active, daily circulation.
Because silver quarters did the heavy lifting of everyday transactions, the vast majority were worn flat over decades of use. Finding an uncirculated survivor from this era is a challenge. Graded MS62 by PCGS, this coin escaped circulation entirely, preserving the crisp design details and original mint luster that wore away on nearly all its contemporaries.
It is an honest, attractive turn-of-the-century survivor, well suited for a Barber date set or as an appealing representative of Gilded Age silver.
