About This Coin

Charles E. Barber’s Liberty Head quarter, introduced in 1892, represents the utilitarian peak of late nineteenth-century American coinage. While the design served the channels of commerce for a generation, its formal, classical lines find their most complete expression not in circulating strikes, but in the deliberate, highly polished proof issues struck at the Philadelphia Mint.

By 1911, the series was nearing its end, and the production of these proof specimens remained small, intended solely for contemporary numismatists. To encounter a survivor preserved at the PR67+ level by CACG is extraordinary. This grade represents the absolute upper echelon of preservation, where the original artistry of the dies remains entirely undisturbed by the passage of more than a century.

Verified by CAC for its exceptional quality, this proof quarter offers a level of preservation that is increasingly difficult to secure today. It is a cabinet piece of the highest order, suited for a collector who values both historical significance and uncompromising condition.

Series History & Details

Designed by Chief Engraver Charles E. Barber, the Barber Quarter was struck from 1892 to 1916. Sharing its obverse with the dime and half dollar, it served as a workhorse of American commerce at the turn of the 20th century.
