Rarity & Key Dates

Early dates are extremely rare, with the 1822 half eagle being one of the most famous and valuable coins in all of U.S. numismatics (only three specimens are known to exist).

Grading Guidelines

Half eagles are graded on the Sheldon 1-70 scale. Luster, strike quality, and eye appeal are the primary criteria. On Liberty Head pieces, wear shows first on the hair curls and the tips of the coronet.
