Rarity & Key Dates
Look out for key dates like the 1885 Liberty Head nickel and the 1913-S Type 2 Buffalo nickel. Buffalos with "Full Horns" or fully struck bison tails carry significant premiums due to strike weaknesses common in the series.
Grading Guidelines
For Buffalo nickels, graders look at the horn on the bison on the reverse. A fully defined, unbroken horn is required for grades of Very Fine (VF-20) and above. Gem MS examples must show original satin or matte luster.
